Penske has unveiled the Oreca 07 livery that the team will run for this weekends Petit Le Mans. The 10 hour event marks Penske’s return to sportscar racing, 8 years after the last American Le Mans entry.
Penske will be the factory Acura team, running the brand new AXR-05 in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship. The AXR-05 DPi is based on the international Oreca 07 LMP2 chassis. With the AXR-05 still undergoing testing and development, Penske will run the standard Oreca Gibson for Petit Le Mans.
Not one to back down from a challenge, Roger Penske has manned the car with an all-star lineup. The 3 drivers, Juan Pablo Montoya, Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud, have 4 IndyCar 500 wins, 1 IndyCar Championships, 1 CART Championship and 1 ALMS title between them.
The victory for Visit Florida Racing with their stock LMP2 car at Laguna Seca will give Penske a bit of a confidence boost. Now it’s proven that a LMP2 can win on pace, Penske have a good chance of a strong finish at Petit.
