Part 1: FIA WEC Super Season Preview – Introduction
Part 2: FIA WEC Super Season Preview – LMP1
Part 3: FIA WEC Super Season Preview – LMP2
Part 4: FIA WEC Super Season Preview – GTE Pro

The fifth part of our FIA WEC Super Season Preview focuses on GTE Am.

Auto BoP doesn’t apply to GTE Am, though manual BoP adjustments are made. GTE Am is a highly unpredictable class, in part due to the requirement to run at least one bronze rated driver. This means the the skill levels of the drivers is a little more… varied than it is in GTE Pro.

Entries for GTE Am have increase from five to nine for the WEC Super Season and the category, whose future was looking a bit grim, looks to be on the up again.

Porsche 911 RSR

The 2018/2019 WEC Super Season sees the 911 RSR that debuted last season being made available to GTE Am teams. As a result, the number of Porsches in GTE Am has doubled to four, with new team Project 1 and Gulf Racing running. Dempsey Proton have an additional car for the Super Season and will be running two cars.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage

The GTE Am field sticks with the old style Vantage for now as the new one won’t be eligible for GTE Am until it’s a year old. Aston Martin Racing did petition the ACO to allow the new-for-2018 Vantage but this was refused. As such, we still get to hear a truly wonderful sounding V8 for at least one more season.

British GT favourites (and semi-works Aston Martin team) TF Sport have committed to WEC for the full season, fielding a single car with Salih Yoluc, Euan Hankey and 2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Charlie Eastwood.

The factory Aston Martin Racing team also remain with a single Vantage for the season and retain their very experienced and successful driver lineup of Paul Dalla Lana, Pedro Lamy and Mathias Lauda.

Tomorrow will be our sixth and final installment of our WEC Super Season preview. We’ll be taking a (very simplified) look at the driver ratings and the biggest names racing this season.
