Striking in blue / Spirit of Daytona

Spirit of Daytona have taken delivery of a Cadillac DPi-V.R in time for the Roar before the 24 at Daytona. The team confirmed drivers Tristan Vautier and Matt McMurry will pilot the car for the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Spirit of Daytona, formerly Visit Florida Racing, were previously a GM customer back in the Daytona Prototype days. The team ran a Corvette DP in similar colours. When the new Daytona Prototype International regulations arrived, SoD had to settle for a standard LMP2 chassis.

The team began with the Riley Mk. 30 but switched to the Ligier JS P217 after the well publicised problems with the Riley chassis. That car has now moved on and is in the hands of BAR1.

The move to the Cadillac, which is on the Dallara global LMP2 base, means that Spirit of Daytona have run 3 out of the 4 LMP2 chassis in less than a year. The Oreca 07 is the only chassis they haven’t run.

Given the dominance of the Cadillac in 2017, I somehow doubt they’ll be jumping ship any time soon. The Spirit of Daytona entry makes 4 Cadillacs on the 2018 grid.
