British Aston Martin team, Barwell Motorsport, is planning to return to the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2010 with a two-car entry of latest specification Aston Martin DBRS9s. Since 2006, Barwell Motorsport has taken 8 race wins and 25 podiums with the DBRS9 in the British GT and FIA GT3 series, as well as winning two British Championship titles. Barwell is an Official Partner Team of Aston Martin Racing, and is regarded as one of Europe’s highest-level Aston Martin teams, having also successfully competed in international championships with their GT1 and GT2 cars.

In difficult racing conditions Phoenix Racing's Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies brought their Audi R8 home in 4th place to claim the 2009 FIA GT3 European Drivers Championship. When rain fell just before the pitstop window the safety car was deployed as cars started to slide off the track. In the confusion of the pitstops and technical problems caused by a power outage the nr 8 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Stefano Gattuso and Lorenzo Bontempelli stormed through from 13th on the grid to take the first win for a Ferrari this season. Csaba Walter also brought the Alpina BMW Alpina B6 home in 2nd place to claim his and Claudia Huertgen's first podium, with the final podium slot going to the nr2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Eric de Doncker and Christian Mamerow. However the day belonged to Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies, with the two young German's celebrating into the evening with their Phoenix Racing Team. Julien Rodrigues and Thomas Accary finished the season on equal points with Nicolas Armindo and Cesar Campanico but the French duo claimed the Vice Champions position thanks to their victory in Germany.

Both drivers are in the chase for the 2009 FIA GT3 European driver's title, with championship leaders Thomas Accary and Julien Rodrigues struggling in the tricky conditions.

The nr 2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT of Eric de Doncker and Christian Mamerow set the fastest time in free practice, beating the best time set in the first free practice session by the nr26 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS of Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies by nearly one second. Haase and Mies were once again the quickest of the title contenders in third place, with the Aston Martin of Thomas Accary and Julien Rodrigues struggling on old rubber posting the 11th fastest time of the two sessions and the Audi R8 of Nicolas Armindo and Cesar Campanico down in 14th place.

Championship contenders Christopher Haase and Christopher Mies threw down the gauntlet to title leaders Thomas Accary and Julien Rodrigues by setting the fastest time in the opening free practice session of the final weekend of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship. The Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS posted a lap time of 1m33.309 on the 4.1km Zolder circuit, 0.795 seconds faster than the Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9 in 7th place. The second fastest car in free practice was the nr 4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9 of Frederic Makowiecki and Manuel Rodrigues, just ahead of the nr25 Alpina BMW Alpina B6 GT3 of Jens Klingmann and Martin Matzke. The second free practice session is due to start at 15:45 local time.

Thomas Mutsch and Walter Salles scored their first win of the 2009 season as the #1 Matech GT Racing Ford GT came through from 17th on the grid to take the chequered flag in Round 10 of the FIA GT3 European Championship. Mutsch made up fourteen places before handing the Ford to Salles, who was looking comfortable behind the #24 Alpina BMW Alpina B6 GT3 of Csaba Walter for second when the Hungarian’s car suffered a puncture three laps from the flag. The fight for the other podium positions fell to a three car battle between Manuel Rodrigues (#4 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9), Nicolas Armindo (#32 Team Rosberg Audi R8 LMS) and Luca Ludwig (#16 Marc Sourd Racing Corvette Z06R GT3) which was decided on the final lap on the corner before the Mistral Straight with Armindo and Ludwig both getting ahead of Rodrigues.

Round 9 of the 2009 FIA GT3 European Championship was suspended after several accidents occurred on lap 4 of the 60-minute race at Paul Ricard HTTT when rain fell on the exit of Turn 7, while the cars were on slick tyres. The race had been declared wet before the cars left the pits for the grid.

In the opening qualifying session a last gasp lap by Jens Klingmann scored the maiden FIA GT3 pole position for himself, Alpina and the BMW Alpina B6.

The Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin’s led the way on their home circuit at Paul Ricard HTTT, with Frederic Makowiecki heading the time sheets in both 60-minute sessions and was the only driver the go below the two minute nine second barrier in the nR 4 Aston Martin. Thomas Accary improved on the first session to finish the second just 0.2 seconds behind his teammate. Third fastest overall was the Corvette of Diego Alessi and Luca Pirri, with Alessi setting the cars best time in the first session. There was no improvement in the second but they were still eighth fastest.
