I was being sarcastic Nick. Although I did leave off a smiley, so it may not have come off that way. We all now it's broken, for something that's meant to be done purely for fun there's an awful lot of politics involved.

Hm, my sarcasm detection is usually better than that... quite disappointing.

Default LCD - bug or f'ed up install?

Dave,

Here's a grab of what I mentioned regarding the LCD screen not showing the current gear. Just a black square appears.

I am running TVStyle plug-in with the helmet view. Although when I turn it off it still appears black as shown in grab.

I'll try the rfactor lite install later today and see what that does.

Edit: Oh, and my graphics settings are full and max on everything.

Never used the tvsyle plugin myself, but rF as standard allows blacks used in the gearfont files under a certain RGB (10/10/10) to be transparent which our files exploit in order to perfectly match the background colour of the LCD. The gearfonts are handled completely differently from any other cockpit animation and that was the only way I could get the background colour to match up - simply copying the RGB so it was the 'correct' green resulted in the colour being corrupted ingame to something nearer a blue, and this was impossible to get around without exploiting what I guess is a weird rF bug.

You can actually see that the gear display itself is off-black so that itself isn't transparent... why this isn't happening for you I really don't understand, the tvstyle shouldn't be overwriting a fundamental hardcoded 'issue' so it can't be that. And as that's such a visible bug it's not something that would just slip into release!

We have a load of stuff ready to patch (mostly small things, many of which nobody outside RLD actually noticed but still) and since nobody else has this issue I won't include a potential fix in the patch. I will, however, have a bloody good think about it and given the file which isn't working correctly if nothing else I can give you a "just for you" semi-fix (or rather an old gearfont texture) which can be placed outside the shared mas file and of course wouldn't cause any mismatches. Won't be terribly pretty though.

I suspect there's a quite fundamental problem with your graphics card not allowing the transparency, for whatever reason - but since it's an rF "feature" I suppose that shouldn't surprise me too much.

edit// dump the attached file in GameData\Vehicles\CARTFactor\Prologue ... it won't be pretty but at least you'll be able to see the gear indicator properly (for now, while I muse over it properly)

thanks Nick, appreciate the fix. I don't have problems with other LCDs using similar methods to your own... done a few myself that way. It is very odd. There must be a conflict of some sort on my system. I have an ATI X800 with the latest drivers (just installed). I'll take a close look at my install as well to see if anything obvious jumps out.

I have to say it was very neat driving and seeing the very faded away colors of the possible messages to be displayed in the LCD, a great touch that luckily for me works perfectly in my system.

by the way, can someone give me a benchmark to aim for in Essington, for example? I did a neat 1:22.6 (using the red car) there but I am still learning about the car's limits
